A Better Way to Portion

Making sure you are eating the correct amounts of proteins and other foods is important before and after your LAP-BAND weight loss surgery procedure. If you are having trouble making your portions smaller, there is a way to stay on your meal plan without eating too much.

If you are using big dinner plates, your food is going to look small. This can make you feel like you aren't eating enough and you might be more tempted to go back for seconds. Stop this from happening by buying  smaller plates to 'trick' yourself. You can go to your local thrift store and find antique plates for a dollar or less. Childrens' plates are sectioned, making it easier for you to know how much food is supposed to go on the plate thus helping with portion control management.

Another way to make your plate look full without eating more food is to spread it out. If you are having mashed potatoes, spread them out so they take up more plate space. Also, when you eat, take smaller bites and chew thoroughly so that it takes you longer to finish your meal. Drink plenty of water throughout the day but remember not to drink during your meal or 45 minutes to an hour afterward. Dehydration is often confused with hunger.

A full plate tells your brain you are eating a lot and may make you feel more satisfied while staying on track with your meal plan.

Don't forget to use your scale to weigh your food. Don't depend on your questimate to determine the right amount food.
