Get More from Your Gym Workout

The idea of being able to spend less time working out while still enjoying the same health benefits is appealing. One way to accomplish this is by spending your free time doing physical activities you enjoy, such as riding a bike or playing a sport, instead of thinking you can only get a workout when you're in a gym. But when you do go to a gym, there are a few changes you can make that will help you do more with your time and reap more weight loss benefits from medical weight loss programs or weight loss surgery.

Add variety to your workouts.

Doing the same exercises over and over again can not only lead to boredom, but it can actually become less effective. The more efficient the body gets at an activity, the more energy it conserves, which is the exact opposite of what you want out of a workout. Instead of exercising for longer, try out an exercise that requires you to move your body in a new way.

Avoid distractions when you exercise.

Another way to increase the intensity of your workoutsâ€"and increase the benefit as a resultâ€"is to pay more attention to what you're doing. That means getting rid of the book and avoiding watching TV while you're doing your cardio activities. Concentrate instead on your posture, technique, and speed.

Work more, rest less.

If you're going to a gym, you may find yourself talking to other exercisers in between using equipment, or giving yourself a rest period as you change activities. This allows your body a longer recovery time, which can decrease your results. Focus on keeping moving during your entire workout time.
