Ideas for an Active Vacation

The word, "vacation" means different things to different people. For some, it means days lying on the beach, soaking up the rays, eating anything and doing...well...doing very little. For these people, vacation also means coming back with a five or ten pound weight gain that rarely gets taken off by year's end. If you plan the events of your vacation around activity instead of inactivity, you can not only prevent weight gain on your next vacation, you may even lose weight.

No one wants to consider running laps and going to the gym on their vacation, so it is important to plan activities that burn calories but are different from the activities you might do at home. Amusement parks are one great way to work in exercise and fun for your vacation. Even if you don't like amusement park rides, walking around from ride to ride, standing in line, or simply browsing through all of the attractions burns hundreds of calories--and chances are you won't even notice you are burning them.

From Daytona Beach, some of the greatest amusement and theme parks in the world are easy daytrips. Consider investing in season tickets to some of these attractions to create a workout program that has you walking these parks regularly. Remember to dress appropriately for the season and take a light weight raincoat for the inevitable afternoon summer downpours. Carry plenty of water with you and take your own food.  This will cut down your costs and keep you away from the temptation of the food kiosks.
