Whether you’re trying to lose weight on your own or after weight loss surgery, it’s important to make exercise part of your every day routine. This isn’t always easy, especially if you’re not used to working out or being active. Try these five simple tips for helping make fitness a habit you enjoy:
Don’t do things you don’t enjoy. If you truly hate jogging, skip a jogging routine. If the gym terrifies you, find a more peaceful place to work out. Don’t make exercise something you absolutely dread.
Find a fitness friend. Teamwork helps make fitness fun. Go jogging with a friend. Make fitness goals together. Companionship and even a little friendly competition can be hugely motivating.
Don’t make excuses. As you establish your routine, don’t fall into the excuse pitfall. If you’re too tired, too busy, or too anything elseâ€"just push through it. Soon, you’ll stop reaching for reasons not to work out.
Acknowledge success. Track your progress, notice results, and reward yourself for sticking with your routine. Just avoid rewarding yourself with unhealthy foods.
Exercise creatively. Work fitness into your normal routines. This could mean parking farther from work, riding a bike to a friend’s house or going for scenic walks in a local park.
