Steps to LAP-BAND® Weight Loss SurgerySTEP 1: New Patient Information SeminarThe Bariatric surgeon will speak with you and others that are interested in the LAP-BAND System during one of our free informational seminars. These seminars are designed to be informative, educational and interesting. The benefits and risks of the surgery will be discussed as well as the necessary lifestyle changes associated with surgery. There will be an opportunity for you to question the surgeon, the bariatric coordinator and several patients who have already had the LAP-BAND System procedure. At the seminar you will be able to pick up additional information and our New Patient Packet. This packet contains program information as well as instructions on how to proceed. STEP 2: Complete New Patient ProfileReturn a copy of the New Patient Profile and a copy of your insurance card to our office. STEP 3: Initial Consultation with SurgeonSchedule your initial consultation with the surgeon by calling the office at 386-673-8588. Prior to your visit, we will contact your insurance company and verify whether or not you have weight loss surgery benefits. If you do, we will also confirm the eligibility criteria that you must meet for your individual policy. If weight loss surgery is a 'specific exclusion' under your policy, we will notify you prior to your visit, to discuss the self-pay fees. STEP 4: Psychological ConsultationWe will provide you with the names of our psychologists. They are trained in the behaviors and lifestyle changes specific to weight loss surgery patients. STEP 5: Bariatric Team Meets and Surgical Clearance GivenThe bariatric team will meet and determine if surgery may be scheduled or additional clearances are needed before surgery. STEP 6: Pre-Operative Education ClassThis class will review the LAP-BAND System procedure, possible complications, and the required life style and dietary changes.
