Prior to joining Florida Hospital, Dr. Birkedal servedas both the Wound Treatment Center's Medical Director and Chairman of Department of Surgery at Capital Regional Medical Center.  

Since education has been, and continues to be important to Dr. Birkedal, he has given several medical presentations and has written textbook chapters for Emedicine Textbook of Surgery.

Dr. Birkedal is also a Clinical Associate Professor and teaches students via Daytona Beach Community College's branch of the Florida State University School of Medicine.
